Nancy Newman on the Germania Musical Society

My former Brown classmate Nancy Newman, now a professor at SUNY Albany, has just published Good Music for a Free People, a much-awaited book on the Germania Musical Society, a mid-19th century orchestra of German-American musicians who played a key role in shaping the nascent art music culture of the United States.
